10th Division: Elemental Masters


The warriors of the tenth division focus on finding balance. To find this balance they focus their efforts in studying one of the four elements. These elements consist of Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind. Each member of the division spends their time studying one of these arts and learns how to incorporate their element into their fighting styles. Each element has its own style which is represented by the natural characteristics that their element has.


Fire:

The shinagami of the tenth division who choose the path of fire learn to take the fierce power of the fire element and use it to fight. They focus on just attacking and don’t worry so much about their defensives. While they are not the greatest at combo attacks their individual attacks are quite powerful. While most people feel that the fire element is uncontrollable and dangerous, the members of the tenth division who study the fire art learn that isn’t all it is. Balance is necessary for members of the division and finding ones inner self. To remain in control fire users must have self control, patience, and balance. An example of fighting styles that the fire element most follows is that of Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. Examples: Heat, Flames, and Lava

Water:

The water school is a school where shinagami learn to control their bodies to fight. They use fluid movements to control both their bodies and their swords. The way members of the water element learn to master their element starts with simple deep breathing exercises. Through the yin and the yang of the universe the users of the water element believe in this same push and pull to control water. When it comes to fighting water users believe in a defensive approach to fighting. They will flow around their opponents and search for an opening. Once they find this opening that is when they strike. This approach gives them a great defense as well. Their fluid movements have sometimes been compared to those of a dancer and a fighting style in which members of this element mimic is T’ai Chi Chuan. Examples: Ice, Snow, Rain, Steam

Earth:

Unlike the fiery styles of the fire school the members of the Earth school focus using their strength in the form of defensive movements. They don’t attack their opponents but allow them to attack him and they then use their own strengths against them. They react to everything around them and use their surroundings to their advantage and to counter attack. Members of the earth element have a deep feeling of the earth around them. It is with this control and deep understanding that members of the tenth division who use earth gain their true strength. Wind:

The fourth school is that of wind. Those followers of this school use a tactic known as Guerrilla tactics. They believe in offensive maneuvers, but when they fight they make sure that they always have a plan. They learn to fight without truly fighting. They use their opponent’s energy against them. Not only that but they use their own heads to figure out how to control the very air around them. Their free flowing movements while are very similar to those of the water school are different because they use their energy to fight in a more offensive manner. They still fight though without actually trying to hit their opponents. An example of a fighting style in which they mimic is Bagua Kung Fu. Examples: Wind, Lightning, Smoke/Mist, Clouds

Void: (Captain & Vice Captain only)

The void is the catch area of the tenth division. It contains the more mysterious elements of life, ones that could not be defined clearly under the parameters already set by the division’s standards. Light and dark, those are an example of the energies that are contained in here. The fighting styles are often cautious but contained; confident but relaxed. But this element is also for those that find themselves without a true pull to any of the elements, or those that want to not specialize but be well rounded in using all the elements. While there is strength in specialty, there is strength, different but just as powerful in balance as well. The leader of this element is Spike. Those that are in the void training area will either have specialized training regiments, or spend some time with each of the others to learn as much as they can. It is always recommended for the vice captain to join the void training programs so they can supervise all of the training themselves and be able and open to helping the lower members of the division.

The training grounds of the Void are split down in half, one for the elements considered more positive, the other side for the more negative elements. In such, light and dark are split up along with another plethora of elements. Examples: Light, dark, chaos, shadow, holy, demonic and a few other odd ones under this.

Members of the Tenth Division are also skilled fighters. Therefore they should have zanjutsu as one of their stronger traits. Members of the division are expected to act in respectful and be aware that they are always representing the division. This refers to not only combat situations, but also to off duty times.

The members may be called to duty for hollow extermination, and the other main offensive force of the Gotei. Much of the duty lies in the front lines, but their powers alone should ride them through the toughest of battles. The Tenth division welcomes anyone, skilled or not, and trains them to manifest their power. The academy of the Tenth Division is open to all members of the division who wish to better master their elements.
